If you have ever had a dream to become an event planner or even just planned to have an event and didn’t want to have everyone indoors you may have considered renting a tent.
Armed with a quick Google search and the knowledge you gathered from the “How to become an event planner” course you took online; You found the event rental place and now you’re well on your way to become an event planner.
Everything seems to be working as it should until you’re informed that to have an event outside under a tent requires a tent permit.
You quickly panic as you start to see your $1500.00 investment and dreams sink to the bottom of the ocean.
Well, let me tell you that you’re not alone and that this blog will help you navigate the murky waters of applying for a tent permit.
First, let me start by saying that dealing with a municipality can be as fun as a visit to the dentist’s office without any anesthesia; however, with a little bit of leg work and the correct documents, it’s easy once you know what to do.
Essentially the City of Gaithersburg and other municipalities require a tent permit use a tent within the City of Gaithersburg, MD if the tent(s) have an aggregate area of 120 sq ft, or 200 sq ft within Montgomery County, MD.
1-A tent permit has to be issued before the tent can be utilized.
2-A tent permit application along with appropriate documents has to be filled out and emailed to plancode@gaithersburgmd.gov.
3-Place exit signs and Fire extinguishers.
Documents:
• Tent Permit Application
• Site plan showing the location of the tent and heater on the property.
• Certificate of Flame Retardation for the tent and sidewalls to match up with certification on the tent.
Note:
There is no fee for the permit at this time; however, under the work description section, write ” Covid Related Tent.”
